Eating to Get Strong: Nutrition Principles for Strength Athletes
You can't out-train a bad diet — and in strongman, that goes double. Here's the no-nonsense nutrition blueprint I give every athlete I coach.
- ▸Eat a real meal 2 hours before training
- ▸Consume 40–60g of fast carbs immediately post-workout
- ▸Sleep 8+ hours — it's nutrition for your nervous system
Calories First, Everything Else Second
Strength athletes need to eat. Period. A 90kg male competing in strongman needs 3,500–4,500 calories on training days. If you're not recovering, you're not eating enough.
Protein: The Non-Negotiable
1.8–2.2g per kg of bodyweight. Every day, without exception. Distribute it across 4–5 meals.
Carbohydrates are Your Friend
Rice, oats, potatoes. These are your training fuel. Don't be afraid of them.
